HIGHER MORWELL GARDEN DIARY
18th July 2016
The weather is again slowing us up with outside work -
this time it is too warm to work in the polytunnel, it
registers way over 40 degrees inside.
I’ve put barbed wire across one of the deer entry
points on the main road to discourage them from
coming in, and for a few days now we have seen no
new damage to plants.
At the end of the
polytunnel you can see
the marvellous rotary soil
sieve which is so much
quicker and easier to use
than a hand sieve. The
last of the 60 paving slabs
have been laid on the
plastic sheet edging to
help stop weed growth.
We really hope the deer
don’t eat the canna.
Finally got to try out the
cement mixer and attempt
to revive my bricklaying
skills or lack thereof. Keep
making the mix way too
sloppy but getting better.
The ground has now been
roughly levelled with the
rotavator, still digging up
big chunks of stone and
builder’s rubble here.
When the patio is laid and
the garden bench is in
place we’ll know if I need
another layer of bricks on
the bed, the coping stones
are just laid on the bricks
at the moment. Looks a
bit like a grave!
