HIGHER MORWELL GARDEN DIARY
20th October 2017
The Beast is helping us keep on top of the leaf fall
exacerbated by the recent gales, it still takes up a
lot of time though. The polytunnel is still producing
for us, the cavallo nero seems to go on for ever and
the carrots are very good now although they seem
to have taken a long time after being planted as
seeds in early spring.
Once the rabbit-
repelling fence was put
in the grass on the
space between the
beds became too time-
consuming to manage
as the power mower
was excluded as well.
The turf was removed
piece by piece and
proper treated timber
edging put against the
beds.
The stump left
after we removed
the fastigiate
branches of the
second pond tree is
slowly being
reduced with the
chain saw, the aim
being to make
something useful
from it. Seat?
Table? If the plans
work favourably it
will be looking
towards the upper
pond. Also today
we have used the
last of the
Charlotte potatoes,
they have kept
very well in the
potting shed.
Yes I know it isn’t flat
but it was a field! The
space was roughly
compacted and
covered in sand left
over from the April
house works. Also using
left-overs the path was
laid with pavers and
filled with sand. Now
we can fill the upper
bed with garlic for
2018!
