HIGHER MORWELL GARDEN DIARY
13th June 2016
The polytunnel arrived this week and coincided with an
end to the warm dry spell of weather. That welcome
couple of weeks allowed me to progress the work on
the electricity supply for outside buildings, as far as
the end of the garage so now the new cement mixer
can be plugged in there. The bricks, paving slabs, sand
and cement for the potting shed patio have arrived but
it has rained every day since so no progress on that.
We’ve had to put protective netting around many more
new plants as the rabbits are eating them.
Inside the tunnel, the
boards are in place against
the tunnel edge for one
side and we have started
on the slow job of de-
stoning the soil, after
giving the ground on the
left in the picture a going
over with the rotavator.
The pile of ash in the
foreground came from the
bonfire pit and will be dug
in with other nutrients for
the soil. This first bed is
urgent as the greenhouse
is host to beans,
tomatoes, courgettes and
cucumbers that are more
than ready for planting
out. At least we work in
the dry now!
