HIGHER MORWELL GARDEN DIARY
11th August 2016
Polytunnel is done! Now it is growing time. The small
potting shed raised bed has been planted and we now
sit on that patio some evenings for the post-gardening
G&T. The laurel and photinia planted in the north east
corner have recovered well from the munching deer
and rabbits. In fact we’ve no signs of deer since putting
up the barbed wire but we are not letting our guard
drop!
Left bed has some more tomato
and cucumber refugees from the
greenhouse and there are
seedlings for leeks and
cauliflowers in the centre bed.
Towards the camera there are
rows of seeds for beetroot,
carrots, lettuce, spinach, spring
onions, garlic, onions, radish and
rocket. One big success already
for the kitchen department is
the coriander, we’ve never
managed to grow it so
abundantly.
The raised bed in front
of the potting shed has
been planted with
dianthus, and the
fragrant yellow rose the
rabbits used to routinely
strip of leaves. Sifted
soil is now around the
edges of the patio ready
for seeding with grass.
Naturally the birds are
gracing our new seat
with their poo. Some
thanks for the daily
refill of the seed
feeders.
