HIGHER MORWELL GARDEN DIARY
6th October 2016
Focus now is on preparing the wildflower patch for
next year and making a better job of it so that we
get more success with the seeds that we sow. The
polytunnel is still producing courgettes, cucumbers
and radishes, and the herbs and salad leaves are
thriving. Outside the beans have been blown down
once and aren’t producing beans at the moment
although there are still plenty of flowers and
therefore hope!
The weather is being
kind and we have dry
days so clearing and
rotavating the
wildflower patch is
progressing well.
We’ve decided to put
paths through the
growth for next year
so we can see a bit
more of what is going
on. Several frogs
were amongst the
displaced wildlife we
found clearing the
patch…
…which is good news for the
planned pond. We’re cutting away
all that we can easily reach of the
very unwell Lawson’s Cypress, and
it will have to be cut down
sometime. That will make a lot of
work dealing with the two trunks,
the available space in the garage is
already full of cut and split Crack
Willow from February. Also we’re
not sure that even very dry cypress
burns well in our revitalised
logburner.
