HIGHER MORWELL GARDEN DIARY
18th September 2017
We finally got some dry weather to finish the fence
to keep the rabbits out along the south border
where the leylandii used to cast their gloom.
Leaves are starting to fall and our new leaf vacuum
is ready to go.
Curiously a solitary molehill has appeared alongside
the Devon bank next to the plantation at the north
end of the garden.
The large sedum next to the quadrangle has become a favourite haunt of butterflies and worker
bees recently and provides us with a welcome splash of colour as autumn sets in.
The wire netting has been run
from the woodlap fence at the
top to the beginning of the fence
just to the right of the picture
behind the first pyracantha. The
heavy 50-metre roll was quite
manageable until trying to feed
it behind the very prickly
pyracanthas, but achieved with
fairly minimal blood loss. The
sixth and last pyracantha was
then added to the existing row.
Next step is to plant 50 yew
saplings in the bare earth aiming
for a windbreak hedge when they
have grown, which will take a
few years. The path which is in
daylight for the first time will be
rolled, the grass re-seeded and
an edging of pavers laid all the
way up.
